What I have my 3-year-old for preschool – Andie Mitchell

James started kindergarten last week. The bad news is that I miss him as my constant companion, and the good news is: he absolutely loves to. In the morning, while driving there, he says to me, “I’m so excited !!” When I pick him up in the afternoon, he tells me what he was doing (“I washed my hands !!”). Daniel and I are so happy and relieved that he adapts well to the new situation, especially after last year and doesn’t see many people.

Of course, I wanted to make the transition as easy as possible for him. I tried my best to get all the things I needed (what the hell is raincoat?), but at the same time he makes sure that he likes them too. That meant it was almost all about dinosaurs, but at least he was happy to take his lunch box to school! Here are some great options I found!

My favorite finds for preschoolers

Nike Flex Runner in game / royal color with university red
Nike Flex Plus in smoky gray
James has been wearing these sneakers for a year now and I can’t say enough good about them. They are comfortable, airy, super flexible and light. The loops on his back and tongue also make it easier to pull.

Slip-on Crocs
In his kindergarten, children wear outdoor and indoor shoes (which they leave at school). Crocs clogs for indoor shoes were recommended. James has been carrying them around the house for a few weeks to get used to them and so far they are great. Lightweight, easy to clean, easy to stretch, and the heel strap helps them stay.

Crocs rain boots
These are the rain boots he has been wearing for the last 2 years (in different sizes). Completely waterproof, not too heavy, washable, the handles on the sides are the best part. They make it easier for James to pull and undress.

Pottery Barn Kids Mackenzie Dino backpack (small size)
James adores dinosaurs and this backpack is covered with them. It is cute, waterproof and durable, with padded shoulder straps. I think the small size will serve us well for a few years. Oh, and we got a monogram with his name on it.

Yellow raincoat Cat & Jack
For some reason, I only wanted a yellow rain jacket for him. This one is beautiful. It’s a lighter jacket, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for an fall jacket with a little more warmth in the lining.

CamelBak water bottle
Leak-free, spill-resistant, BPA-free and dishwasher safe

Wildkin Dinosaur lunch bag
I pack this with a snack, a linen napkin and James ’water bottle fits right inside (comes home before lunch), but it will go in a bento box or other lunch container and in an ice pack!

Crayola Kids reusable masks
James ’school requires children to wear only one-color masks (these can bother toddlers). This 5-pack of colorful canvas masks has been a great option so far. The masks are lightweight, machine washable, the ear straps are adjustable, and the fabric has a flexible nose clip that helps keep the mask safe. Bonus: on each mask there is a small mark for the inscription of his name.
