Alec Baldwin spoke to roadside photographers in Vermont on Saturday, where he told paparazzi that Rust cameraman Halyna Hutchins – who killed her last week while filming the film Rust – was his “friend”.
“I can’t comment because the investigation is ongoing,” Baldwin told the photographer. “I was commissioned by the sheriff’s department in Santa Fe. I cannot answer any question of the investigation. I can not.”
“A woman died,” the actor added. ‘She was my friend. She was my friend. The day I arrived in Santa Fe to start filming, I took her to dinner with Joel, the director.
Last week when we were on set Rust, Baldwin practiced with a pistol that he was told did not contain live ammunition. Actor later pulled the trigger, fatally shot Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souzo.
When Baldwin spoke to photographers on Saturday, he was spotted saying “sorry” to his wife Hilario, who seemed to be trying to talk to him while he was talking to cameramen.
“We were very, very – sorry – we were a very, very, you know, well-oiled team shooting a film together, and then its horrible event happened,” he said.

After being asked how the meeting with Hutchins ’husband Matthew and her son went, Baldwin said:“ I wouldn’t know how to describe him. They are surprised. “
Hilaria then erupted, “Guys, you know what, no details.”
“Do me a favor, I’ll answer the question,” Baldwin then told Hilaria.
Baldwin continued:
The boy is overwhelmed with grief. That’s something, you know, there are occasional accidents at movie venues, but nothing like that. This is episode one in a trillion. It’s an event of one in a trillion. And so he is in shock. She has a 9-year-old son. We are in constant contact with him because we are very concerned about his family and child.
“Like I said, we’re looking forward to the sheriff’s department telling us what their investigation has yielded,” Baldwin added.
When asked if he would ever work on another film scene involving firearms, Hilaria shook her head no, but Baldwin replied, “I couldn’t answer that question. I really don’t have them – I don’t have a feeling for it at all. “
The actor added that although fatal shootings at movie venues are extremely rare, he is nonetheless “extremely interested” in “the ongoing efforts to limit the use of firearms at movie venues”. Baldwin also admitted that “he is not an expert in this field.”
“How many bullets have been fired in movies and TV shows in the last 75 years?” Baldwin asked. ‘It’s America. How many bullets have there been in movies and on TVs before? Billions in the last 75 years. And almost all without incident. “

“It’s imperative, it’s imperative that you understand, I’m not an expert in the field,” Baldwin confirmed. “So whatever others choose is the best way. As far as protecting the safety of people at film venues is concerned, I am all committed to that, and I will be involved in all possible ways. “
After the photographers asked if he believed in the production Rust will ever start again, Baldwin replied, “No, no.
“So do me a favor – you know, man, my kids are in the car crying,” Baldwin told the paparazzi before leaving.
Although it remains unclear, it turns out that Baldwin stopped by the side of the road to talk to the photographers who accompanied him while he was in the car with his family.
“Out of courtesy to you, I came to talk to you,” the actor added. “I am not allowed to comment on the investigation. I talk to the cops every day. “
Both Rust Chief Armored Officer Gutierrez-Reed and Assistant Director Dave Halls have also been under strict scrutiny over the past week, as they were one of the few people who handled firearms before Baldwin got it.
Gutierrez-Reed was reported to have only worked on two film sets as armor head – The old way in Rust – and that he was the subject of that 24-year-old numerous complaints on the set of The Old Way and angered movie star Nicolas Cage, who reportedly yelled, “You just blew my damn drummer off!” at Gutierrez-Reed during filming.
Gutierrez-Reed broke her silence statement issued by her lawyers on Friday, in which she blamed the producers, adding that she had “no idea” where the combat bullets were coming from, and that people had “slandered” her to the media.
As for Halls – who handed Baldwin a gun and told him it contained no live ammunition – it was reported that he was an assistant director fired from a previous job after firing a gun on set and injuring a member of the film crew.
