Host of “Real Time”. Bill Maher triggered an alarm Friday night about next week Virginia gubernatorial elections that could go to Republicans for the first time since 2009.
Maher began a panel discussion on the show, stressing that Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe “should have gone with her,” as President Biden won in Virginia by 10 points and McAuliffe was previously governor of the Commonwealth, 2014-2018.
Instead, Maher noted, the race takes place “behind the neck and neck,” with GOP challenger Glenn Youngkin because of a problem Maher alerted spectators to that he had previously pointed out.
“I said months and months ago that the issue in the upcoming elections will be what will happen in schools,” Maher said. “Parents vote and they don’t like what’s going on in schools. They feel like they’re losing control and that’s become an issue in this election.”

“Trust me, this is going to be a big election in the form of a barometer, because if Terry McAuliffe loses, people will understand, ‘Yes. Oh, that’s right. It’s about that,'” Maher continued.

The HBO star then tore up McAuliffe over his infamous debate when a Democrat said, “I’m not going to let parents come to schools and actually take books out and make their decisions. I don’t think parents should tell schools what they should teach.” ”
Maher described McAuliffe’s comment as “applause” for teachers, not parents.
“Only on a political level, sorry,” Maher said before restricting the language for his guest, U.S. Senator Chris Coons, D-Del. “Very stupid, isn’t it? Very stupid.”
Maher later stressed, “We need to start defining what ‘critical race theory’ means because it means something to everyone when they hear it.”

Atlantic personal writer Caitlin Flanagan responded by arguing that the ideology of critical race theory can be taught, but “what you can’t do” is “set school policy with the findings of critical race theory”.
“Because of that, you can’t rewrite the curriculum and you really can’t treat children by pulling them out by race and giving them different messages. And you can’t do that. It’s happening,” Flanagan explained.

“If it means critical racial theory, if it means separating 5-year-olds by race and telling some that you are oppressors and others that you are oppressed, and giving up color-blind society, and resegregation and racism are the essence of America – then I’m out “I’m not going to do that,” Maher said. “But I support Tony Morrison, I admit that racism still exists.”

Flanagan, who stressed that she is a “Democrat,” criticized McAuliffe as “an interfering politician” who “takes the side of the teachers’ union” because “his bread is spread there.”

“He’s a rich man who sent all his children to private schools and never before in his life did anyone tell him, ‘We’re going to tell your 8-year-old something you don’t want her to know, and we’re going to keep her for seven hours,’ that it does and you have no control over it, ”Flanagan said.“ It’s a big problem and if he loses it, the Democrats will lose.
