Three teenagers in Florida killed a classmate and classmate with a knife and sword, local police said.
Over the weekend, on October 22, Miramar police arrested a 17-year-old man and two women, ages 16 and 17, NBC Miami in reports Sun Sentinel.
According to police, the trio face charges of first-degree murder, interfering in evidence and criminal conspiracy over the October 17 murder of Dwight Grant. The trio has not yet been named.
Broward County prosecutors said Tuesday that the trio will be charged as adults when the time comes reports WTVJ.
Police believe they targeted Grant after the 17-year-old discovered Grant had sex with his ex-girlfriend, NBC Miami reported, citing a police statement.
On October 17, the trio gathered on a playground near Grant’s home, dressed in all black clothing that did not bother to destroy them, a police statement said.
They then entered Grant’s housing estate and lured him to his door by calling him around 7 p.m., police said.
The 17-year-old grabbed Grant, beat him and then stabbed him in the neck with a small knife, a police statement said, adding that Granta was then stabbed in the chest with a sword held by one of the teenagers.
A 17-year-old man and a 16-year-old woman then took Grant’s body down and hid it in a bush near the apartment block, police said.
At the same time, the other girl removed the blood from the stairwell with the cleaners she had brought with her. The three then burned their clothes, police said.
After a sworn statement, the 17-year-old made it clear in text messages before the murder that he wanted revenge.
“The murder will definitely happen soon,” the man said in a text message to the 17-year-old, according to police records. reports the Washington Post.
The man then told the 16-year-old girl that Grant had “raped” his ex-girlfriend, police said. The Miramar Police Department told the Post: “We have no evidence of any sexual assault.”
