  • A surgeon from Minnesota told the school board that parents should decide whether their children will wear masks or not.

  • “It’s still their responsibility. It’s not yours,” said Dr. Jeffrey Horak and opposed the mask mandate.

  • Horak said he was fired nine days later without explanation.

The Minnesota surgeon was fired after speaking at a school board meeting and saying that parents should be the ones to decide whether their children wear masks or not, KOMO news reported.

At a meeting on Oct. 11 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Dr. Jeffrey Horak spoke out against the mandate of the mask in the district.

“Who did God appoint as the guardian of these children? Their parents,” Horak said at the meeting, reports KOMO News. “God gave each of these children to their parents and they speak for them. They may be wrong, they may be stupid, they may be perfect in their decisions. But it is still their responsibility. It is not yours, God gave it to them, respect their wishes – on both sides of the fence. “

V statement on his Facebook page, Horak said nine days after making those comments, his employer, Lake Region Healthcare, told him his views were “no longer consistent” with theirs, and asked him to either resign or dismiss him.

“I was not given a reason, nor was I aware of any problems or complaints regarding me,” Horak said in a statement.

He added: “We live in an America where freedoms are tightly restricted. I am a man who believes that individuals have the right to research and decide what is best for them and their children when it comes to their health. I don’t believe governments or institutions would do that they have to dictate. That’s the position I’ve always taken. And when science doesn’t make sense, it’s hard for me to follow. “

Lake Region Healthcare did not respond to Insider ‘s request for comment at the time of publication, but in a statement to KVRR said that they did not dismiss Horak.

“Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) is not Dr. Horak’s employer. Dr. Horak is part of the Lake Region Medical Group (LRMG), a partnership of providers with whom LRH enters into a contract. Dr. Horaka has installed LRMG for services in LRH under our Professional Contract To be clear, in this case, the termination of Dr. Horak’s office was accepted by the board of LRMG, not LRH. The reasons for any separation are between Dr. Horak and LRMG, “the hospital said.

Horak did not respond to Insider’s request for comment at the time of publication.
