The 16-year-old was shot in the head while waiting for a school bus

According to Lawrenceville Police Lt. JO Parker, officers were sent to the Saddle Shoals neighborhood around 6:30 a.m. “in connection with someone who heard a shot and then saw a child lying on the street.”

Parker said the 17-year-old approached the 16-year-old and shot him in the head. The victim was taken to Northside Gwinnett Hospital.

Detectives found the suspect in the same neighborhood, about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, where the shooting occurred.

He has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, police said.

“Benefits can be changed or upgraded depending on the condition of the victim,” Parker said in an email.

The suspect is currently being held at Gwinnett County Jail.

Parker confirmed that the suspect and the victim are attending Central Gwinnett High School. “In the past, they had some sort of disagreement. They know each other from school, but recently they had some sort of conflict,” he said.
