Our body often gets stuck due to stress, a strenuous lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. Recognize the need for a break and go for a detox!

Although most people associate detoxification with cleansing with juices, starvation diets, and dry teas, what exactly is detoxification? It is a biological process that takes place ALL THE TIME to remove waste through sweat, urine, intestines and our breath. The truth is, we are terribly exposed to a world full of toxins. And it can be detrimental to our health.

The impact of toxins on health and the need for detoxification

Nutritionist Ruchi Sharma, founder of Eat Fit Repeat, explains the effects of toxins.

“Our body has to fight chemicals, smoke, pesticides and preservatives every day. Along with increasing pollution around the world, toxic overload affects all systems of our body. This can cause potential damage to vital organs and tissues throughout the body, including our brains, and endanger mental and emotional stress, ”Sharma told HealthShots.

The body neutralizes or removes toxins through the liver, intestines, kidneys, lungs and skin. When the body cannot self-cleanse or detoxify, it can show signs and symptoms that require immediate attention. That’s when you know it’s time to detox!

Five signs that your body urgently needs detoxification

  1. Impaired digestion

Frequent indigestion is a very strong indicator that the body is overloaded with toxins that require detoxification. Sharma says, “The liver is a key organ responsible for detoxifying and repackaging toxins. It basically filters everything that goes into your body. It triggers bloating, acidity, constipation, diarrhea and resistance to weight loss. This is when your body requires urgent detoxification.

2. Constant fatigue

If you feel tired even after hours of sleep or feel extremely exhausted at the end of the day, this is a sign for you. Fatigue often causes great stress to the adrenal glands. Prolonged toxic stress leads to a condition called adrenal fatigue, which causes your glands to not function properly due to excessive levels of cholesterol from toxins. It therefore requires urgent detoxification in order to return to a healthy path.

3. Frequent mood swings, anxiety and insomnia

Do you feel overwhelmed with daily activities and does this even affect your mood? Blame the toxins in your body! Nutritionist Harleen Gulati, founder of Selfpledge, tells HealthShots: “Stress takes an ugly form, causing us to have mood swings, anxiety, depression, headaches and even insomnia. This may be due to an imbalance in your cortisol levels. “

As we may know, cortisol is a hormone that the body releases (especially in the evening) to relieve stress, making us more energetic in the evening. It therefore causes insomnia. To this Sharma adds: “Toxins like xenoestrogens cause hormonal imbalances as it is a synthetic blend of several hormones that act as estrogens in our body. Toxins such as aspartame also have the ability to kill brain cells, which affects the optimal functioning of brain cells. Your mood swings should ring for your detox time!

4. Weight fluctuations

If your body fluctuates between gaining and losing weight despite the fact that you are counting calories and exercising, your body triggers a detox alarm. Gulati comments: “Adipose tissue, also known as‘ fat cells ’, has a tendency to retain toxins. Our body recognizes that it is not safe to break down these fat cells and release toxins in the body, leading to unwanted weight gain. Rapid changes in food intake, diet, alcohol consumption and smoking lead to a situation where the body cannot function properly.

5. Excessive constipation or diarrhea

Waste disposal is an important daily function of the body. Sharma says, “constipation or lack of bowel movement can be due to a lack of antioxidants in your diet and can cause toxins to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Extreme episodes of diarrhea also occur when the body is unable to retain excess toxins and excretes essential vitamins and nutrients from the body.

If any of this happens to you, you need a cleansing and detoxification plan to relax your gut and help it restore its natural digestive tendencies.

When you notice a combination of these characters, don’t ignore it! Instead, consult a dietitian on an appropriate detox diet.
