The National Football League will postpone several games this weekend due to an increase in Covid-19 cases among players, several sources told CNBC on Friday.

The expected move by the NFL, which would be the first postponement of professional football matches this season, comes when the National Hockey League announced that it will postpone the matches of several teams for the same reason.

More than 100 NFL players are expected to test positive for coronavirus last week.

On Thursday, the NFL updated its coronavirus-related protocols, saying “the changes we’re making today are designed to address the increase in cases and the arrival of the Omicron version.”

The league said it would require all clubs to immediately “implement preventive measures that have proven effective: camouflage regardless of vaccination status, remote or outdoor meetings, elimination of personal meals and no outside visitors during the team’s trip. “

And the NFL has adjusted “requirements to return to participation for those who have survived COVID-19.”

That’s breaking news. Check again for updates.
