The main cause of skin hyperpigmentation is excessive production of a brown pigment called melanin. Melanin is a pigment that is responsible for skin color and is produced by melanocyte cells in the skin, says Dr. Dadu.

Skin rashes such as rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, contact dermatitis; Skin infections such as acne, ringworm, tinea versicolor, candidiasis, medical conditions and hormonal changes due to pregnancy can lead to the development of skin hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Some external factors and medications can also cause dark spots or hyperpigmentation. Like harmful UV rays, it can trigger excessive melanin production in the skin.

Here are some tips for controlling winter hyperpigmentation:

1. Limit sun exposure

7. Retinoids can help
