Walker was a little more glowing in his praise as he said on Friday that it was “really an honor” to play alongside the Duchess, who has a piano at home, but told him she hadn’t played with another musician “for a very long time”. .

“I think we were both very nervous because it wasn’t going to go exactly according to plan and one of us would let the other person down or anything else, but she was absolutely wonderful,” he said.

“I thought she absolutely broke the show; it’s not easy to just jump for the piano with a bunch of musicians you’ve never played with and record live recordings in front of the camera, but she totally managed it.

“She is such a lovely, kind and heartfelt person and she took the time to thank everyone personally for the opportunity to play together.

“It was a crazy day for me to ‘pinch’.”

He added: “I know this song will resonate with many people this Christmas and my heart goes out to anyone who raises a glass around the table and remembers those who can’t be with us.”

Earlier this year, Walker performed a song about addiction at the Forward Trust event, where the Duchess gave a keynote speech on the same topic.

The show was a surprise to viewers of Royal Carols: Together At Christmas when it aired on ITV on Christmas Eve.

There were also other musical performances and readings, including the Duke of Cambridge pre-recorded at Westminster Abbey earlier this month.

The congregation included vulnerable children and the elderly, caregivers, religious leaders, community volunteers, members of the armed forces, and those who served others during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Duchess said: “We wanted to thank all those amazing people who supported their communities.

“We also wanted to identify those whose struggles were perhaps also less visible.”
