She will interpret the awards to the top members of the national response to Covid as a sign that the government believes the worst of the pandemic is now over.
Abandonment of Sir Chris Whitty and others from previous honor lists were seen as a sign that the government is reluctant to give recognition to those responsible while the worst news is yet to come.
The cabinet said almost one in five, 19 percent of New Year’s awards are for covid-related services.
Sir Patrick he had already received the title of knight in 2019, but both he and Sir Chris received the higher title of knightly commander of the Order of Bath.
Sir Patrick said: “I am really pleased to see so many outstanding scientists and engineers who have been awarded at this year’s awards, including those who have worked tirelessly as part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Dame June said: “I am extremely honored by this recognition of the significant contribution the MHRA has made to the nation’s response to Covid-19 over the past two years.
“This is thanks to the dedication and commitment of all our talented staff who work so tirelessly to ensure that vaccines, medicines and medical devices are safe and effective for people across the UK.”

Sajid Javid, Minister of Health, said: “It has been a privilege to work with such dedicated professionals who have worked relentlessly throughout the pandemic and provided expert advice so we can protect people.
“This year’s honorary list rightly recognizes those whose efforts have helped us implement the world’s leading testing and vaccination programs, and I am deeply grateful for their hard work.”
British bosses involved in vaccine development abroad are recognized on the list of decorations abroad. Among them is dr. Rod MacKenzie, Chief Development Officer and Executive Vice President at Pfizer, and Sean Marett, Chief Business and Commercial Officer at BioNtech, who have become companions of the Order of St. Michael and St. George through their services to support the development and distribution of vaccines.
There is OBE for Melanie Ivarsson, Head of Development at Modern.
