PThe government is stepping up to reduce the testing burden for holidaymakers when international travel rules are reviewed on Wednesday.

Some travel industry experts are calling for pre-departure tests to be phased out and for PCR tests to be reduced to rapid tests on the second day, with rules requiring arrivals to self-isolate until they receive results.

Travel consultant Paul Charles tweeted that although he expected the requirement to take the test before returning to the UK, the rules on the arrival test should also be relaxed.

“These special measures ruin future business and tourist trips and still cost a small fortune in addition to the trip itself. The LFT (lateral flow) tests are good enough, “he wrote.

Calls follow Reports that senior government figures are in favor of abandoning pre-departure tests introduced to prevent the arrival of omicron from abroad due to the dominance of omicron in the United Kingdom.

Henry Smith, chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on aviation, told The Telegraph last week: “These urgent restrictions are simply no longer necessary, but each week they impose more money on the coffers, further erosion of our international competitiveness and endanger jobs.”
