Mikel Arteta said that Arsenal is “open” and “attentive” in the transfer market, as he is considering possible goals in the positions of midfielder and midfielder.

The Arsenal manager said the club must “maximize every window” and made it clear that they are looking for reinforcements that could strengthen the team this month.

The striker’s position is a priority for Arsenal, who are expected to lose both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah when their contracts expire at the end of this season. There is also uncertainty about the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has not played for the club since he was stripped of his captaincy last month.

Arsenal are known to admire Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. Club sources have previously distanced themselves from reports linking Vlahovic to moving to the Emirates, but the 21-year-old is considered one of Europe’s most exciting prospects and has only 18 months left on his contract.

Arteta did not want to talk about individual targets, but said: “With the way we want to develop the team, we have to enlarge each window in different ways and we are vigilant.

»Edu [the technical director] and his team work very hard because we know exactly what we need to do. Whether we succeed in January or summer is another question.

“If this is the right player and we can afford it and we can do what we want, we will talk about it and make the best possible decision. We are open. ”

The deal could be made easier for Vlahović by the presence of Lucas Torreira, the Arsenal midfielder on loan at the Italian club. Torreira is a fixture in the middle of Fiorentina this season.

Arsenal also hope to take up a position in the middle, where they are currently without Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny due to the African Cup of Nations. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, meanwhile, agreed to join the Roma on loan.

Arteta therefore has no chance at the heart of the team, and the Spaniard admitted that they are “very, very short” before Sunday’s FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest. Arsenal are also battling a handful of Covid cases and injuries.
