Gilles Leonard, director of Méribel, a popular resort for British skiers, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome visitors from the UK again. Méribel was created by Scottish Peter Lindsay in 1938 and we have enjoyed a very close relationship with our British since. friends.”
However, during the celebration, some in the travel industry lamented that the French ban had lasted so long.
Paul Charles, executive director of travel advice at The PC Agency and former director of Eurostar, said: “Finally, France has changed its detrimental entry position for visitors from the UK … it does not help the economy.
“I hope the French look back on politics and realize that it has achieved absolutely nothing except that it has caused enormous emotional and financial stress on both sides of the English Channel.”
