  • The court ruled that she had already earned nine points on her driving license for a previous offense and driving without insurance.

The female student, who was caught 10 times speeding on the same speed camera in just two months, was banned from driving on the roads after gaining 45 points in driving.

21-year-old Lara Bertin was spotted rushing up and down Brightona picturesque seashore over an eight-week period in which she was caught almost ten times speeding.

A student of the film, who lives in a city in East Sussex, said she was a “key worker” and did not know that she had repeatedly broken the law, even though she had traveled more than 40 km / h on a section of road at speed 30 km / h.

However, when Ms. Bertin returned home for a holiday break, she discovered a number of unwanted Christmas gifts: 10 separate speeding tickets.

The court heard that the speed range measured by the automatic speed camera at the Marine Parade in Brighton ranged between 38mph and 44mph. The case went to trial and she was found guilty at the previous hearing.

Bertin told judges in Brighton on Friday that she worked as a “key worker” during the first closure and that she traveled along the coast for part of her role.

She asked the judges to allow her to keep her driver’s license, saying that banning her from driving would cause her extreme problems because of her job.

Bertin said not only would she lose her work experience as a runner in a film studio, but her parents relied on her to pick up her younger brother and sister from school.

She objected: ‘I am studying film at Brighton University and my work is a runner and I have a lot of upcoming films in which I will be a runner.

“I take footage from the studio to the location and take the actors – some who have never been to Brighton – to the studios. Everyone relies on me.

‘Sometimes, if my parents are busy, I have to pick up my younger brother and sister from school.’

In the eight weeks between September and November 2020, Bertin drove seven times at speeds of more than 40 mph and three times at more than 30 mph.

The court ruled that she had already received nine points on her driving license for a previous offense and driving without insurance.

Michael Sandeman, the bench president, banned her for six months, saying her case did not cross the line of extreme hardship.

He said: “Although we are aware that this will cause you inconvenience if you ban driving, we do not believe it would cause extreme problems.”

In addition to Mr Sandeman banning her from taking to the roads, Bertina fined her £ 960 at a cost of £ 500. He also ordered the victim a surcharge of £ 96, for a total of £ 1,556.
