The tsunami waves, which measure two meters in height, were observed by sea level meters in the capital of the American territory of American Samoa after volcanic activity in Tonga, the American Tsunami Warning Center in the Pacific announced.
The tsunami threat continues, and sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents pose a threat along ports’ beaches, the tsunami supervisor said in a statement.
Tonga issued a tsunami warning after an eruption of an underwater volcano.
The video, posted on social media, shows big waves floating ashore in coastal areas.
The Tongan Meteorological Service said a tsunami alert had been issued for the whole of Tonga.
Saturday’s eruption was the latest in a series of spectacular eruptions of the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai volcano.
