Actor Jamie Dornan was stuck in quarantine Down Under before filming the BBC Turist drama, as his father Jim died of Covid after he went to hospital for knee surgery.

Jamie Dornan said he was stuck in quarantine on the other side of the world when his father died after Covid in Northern Ireland.

The 39-year-old actor, best known for his role in the film Fifty Shades of Gray, was in hotel isolation in Australia before filming. BBC drama Tourist.

When he was there, he received the news that his father was dying after he went to the hospital for routine knee surgery, but there he fell ill with Covid and eventually died of the deadly virus.

Jamie, who starred opposite Gillian Anderson in the thriller The Fall, spoke about the trauma he felt at the time, an experience that has been repeated countless times around the world for thousands of people.

Jamie said of this: “It was a brutal time for several reasons and for many people. We’re all just trying to pull it off and get to the other side – and we hope to keep our heads down. “

Jamie’s father Jim was an obstetrician and gynecologist in Northern Ireland and was proud that his son will play Sir Kenneth Branagh in Belfast about a father amid trouble in the country.

Jamie said The sun : “On our bookshelf was a picture of my father and Ken opening a wing in the maternity ward at the hospital where my father spent most of his career.

“I remember thinking it was a big thing in our house to be there and do it and meet my father and stuff.”

The actor said 2021 was “the worst year… And the hardest” of his life, following his father’s death.

Jamie said: “Early in life and now I have been subjected to a lot of pain and loss.”
