A “respectful, quiet and polite” schoolboy was sentenced to life in prison after stabbing a 16-year-old schoolboy to death in an unprovoked assault.
18-year-old Stefan Draca stabbed 16-year-old Rayon Pennycook when he tried to end a quarrel between two girls in front of a house in Corby, Northamptonshire, on May 25 last year.
Rayon suffered a single stab wound to the chest and was declared dead at the scene despite the efforts of doctors.
After stabbing Rayon, Draca, then 17, fled on foot and changed clothes at a nearby gym before going home and confessing to his father what he had done.

Draca of Corby denied murder and possession of the object with the blade.
The teenager was found guilty after a trial at Northampton District Court and was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison on Friday.
Judge David Herbert said at the sentencing, “You went to Reynolds Road for a confrontation and were prepared for violence.
‘You used a knife you took to the scene and stabbed Rayon Pennycook in the chest.
“This example highlights the dangers posed by young people who are willing to carry knives in public.”
The court heard that Draca had come to the scene to defend a girl who was arguing in the garden with a girl near Rayon who was in the house next door.

As the boys in the group began to retreat, Draca stepped towards Rayon and stabbed him in the chest, breaking his main vein in his heart.
Rayon, who is set to start an apprenticeship in construction, died at the scene, despite efforts by friends, police and paramedics to save his life.
Draca then dropped the knife, which they never found.

The court ruled that Draca had not been convicted before the night of the murder and had no knives in the past.
His former principal even described him as a “respectful, quiet, and polite young man” who showed no signs of disturbing behavior.
When he returned home, he confessed to what he had done to his father, who took him to the Weekly Woods Justice Center in Kettering, where he turned himself in to police.
After the trial, Rayon’s family said, “Rayon’s loss left us devastated and broken.
‘He was a son, a brother to eight brothers and sisters, an uncle, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin and a friend and so many people miss him in many ways.
Rayon’s family said: ‘Rayon was happy, very enthusiastic, kind, loving and very family oriented. He was a man. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. ‘

Detective Inspector Pete Long of Northamptonshire Police said: “This case has been a complete tragedy from the outset.
‘A talented, promising and much-loved young man has lost his life, and another is now facing a considerable prison sentence and loss of prospects for the future and must live forever with what he has done.’
