Tsunami waves, two meters high, formed here American Samoa after volcanic activity c Tonga, a USA-found Pacific the tsunami monitoring center said.

Tonga issued a tsunami alert after a submarine volcano erupted in the Pacific state on Saturday.

The Tongan Meteorological Service has issued a warning across Tonga and said the tsunami warning was enforced for the whole of Tonga.

In a statement, the Honolulu Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said “this earthquake caused a tsunami. According to all available data, there is a threat to American Samoa due to sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could be dangerous along beaches, in ports and coastal waters.

It also said the center was monitoring the tsunami threat.

Among the recommended measures was that “persons in or near the ocean off the coast of all of American Samoa should withdraw immediately from the water and away from beaches and harbors.”

Saturday’s volcanic eruption is the latest in a series of eruptions of the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai volcano in the region.
