Boris Johnson resigned leadership urging Britons to “work from home” where possible, as Plan B measures aimed at combating the spread of Covid-19 end on Thursday in England.
In December, workers were ordered to leave the office and decide to work remotely when the proliferation of the omicron version triggered increased government restrictions.
However, the Prime Minister will no longer ask workers in England to avoid the office and other jobs where possible.
“People should talk to their employers about arrangements to return to the office,” Mr Johnson said.
Employers will have the power to decide whether staff need to be physically present at work or whether they can continue working from home where they choose.
Here are your rights when it comes to flexible working:
What are the official guidelines?
In England, the official guidelines for working from home, where possible, will end on 20 January and workers will be able to return to the office.
In Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon instructed workers to continue working from home where they can.
The decentralized governments of Wales and Northern Ireland have also asked citizens to avoid the office where possible.
What should my employer do to protect me at work?
The government has lifted all restrictions on the number of people who can meet at work at one time, along with all social distancing measures. This means that companies do not have to separate workers and customers from people they do not live with.
Employers asking workers to come in were instructed to put in place a number of measures to protect against coronavirus infection, such as the need for well-ventilated offices.
Measures can be found at Government website.
