Brendan Rodgers supports Leicester to recover after two seasons of heart rate by tackling a late challenge for the top four.

Rodgers revealed a “numb” experience on the last day of last season, when they were beaten by Tottenham opponents on Wednesday night and ended up outside the Champions League.

Leicester suffered a similar fate last season, losing 2-0 at home to Manchester United and dropping out of the top four on the last day.

This season has proved difficult due to injuries to key players, as Jamie Vardy, Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana are currently absent, and defender Timothy Castagne is expected to be released two months after surgery.

But Leicester have just seven points less than seventh with 20 league games and Rodgers will welcome a number of players away to Tottenham.

“We will always strive for improvement and our story this year could be the second half of the season,” the Leicester coach said.

“It’s football, it’s all about distress and how you react to it. These players have shown many times over the last few years that they can do it.

“Undoubtedly the first half of the season was a challenge for us, but the credit goes to the players for some of the performances we had.

“We’ve shown that resilience and that mindset, so with the players coming back, I hope we get that kind of rhythm in the team and I hope we can have a great second half of the season.

“A lot of games need to be played and a lot more to play.”

Leicester have been in the top four for almost 250 days last season until losing their last two games against Chelsea and Tottenham.

Although Leicester won the FA Cup in May, Rodgers revealed a bad feeling after a 4-2 home defeat to Tottenham on the final day.

“It was a bitterly disappointing result,” he said. “Above all, I had a feeling of numbness after the match.

“I was really very disappointed with the work we put in throughout the season, but the season is about 38 games and we deserved to finish in fifth place.

“It was still a fantastic season for us.”

Leicester will be strengthened by the return of James Justin, Caglar Soyuncu, Patson Dhaka, Boubakary Soumare, Ayoze Perez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Luke Thomas to tonight’s postponed match.
