Anger, contempt and support when Andrew Neil returned to television to take over Boris Johnson

The clerical public figure is trying to shake off a series of recent public embarrassments just to get new humiliations out of the woods. Heaven knows how the recently outgoing British news anchor Andrew Neil was able to put himself in the shoes of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was in conflict. But he went over everything and achieved just that Boris Johnson: Has the road run out? (Channel 4).

As he somehow imagined how sublimely the entire political and journalistic establishment seemed to despise you, Neil uttered a chatty but damn controversy about Johnson’s handling of allegations of imprisonment parties and the culture of “wine time” on Downing Street. And when he described the many ways Johnson let the country down, Neil was visibly buzzing with enthusiasm.

How sharp he seemed. It was as if his disastrous term was the founding president GB News it was a bad dream. Here he began a new career on Channel 4 – where he was to be revealed as the host of a weekly political show – and visibly glowing with zeal.

Neil was in his element as he sat with the great and good Westminster. However, it was both the opinions of the leader and the opinions of Johnson’s allies, past and present, including Michael Gove (now) and David Davis (very past).

“As a journalist, I’ve seen premieres coming and going for half a century,” Neil said at the beginning. “I have never seen such a collapse. Boris Johnson is not over yet, but his decline in just a few short weeks is unprecedented. As the scandal is still unfolding, the film was clearly far from final. It also took longer than a good 30 minutes and the upholstery was rude.

Neil drove a lot around London, reviewing milestones with the rolling eye of a steel journalist. And Channel 4 used an annoying device that Neil was talking to the camera when he was filmed by another camera (you were constantly expecting that second camera to be filmed by a third camera).

They weren’t bombs either. It was one of those documentaries where they told you what to think instead of the facts, and invited you to decide for yourself. The conclusion Neil reached was that Johnson had clung to power for the time being, but his premiership was on loan.

“It started out as a political crisis he created himself,” Neil declared in a fucking sign. “It has become a crisis of the British state.” He may not have felt such anger since he learned that GB News was giving Nigel Farage a nightclub, along with a fake CGI pub.
