Three Meta officers were charged after the alleged split racist and misogynistic messages on social media.
Police officers, two of whom are still serving, were collaborators of Wayne Couzenswho kidnapped raped and murdered by Sarah Everard last March.
Despite police officers being charged with the crime, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said their identities were being disguised for “operational reasons”.
Detectives investigating the case discovered allegedly extremely offensive material in the WhatsApp group stored on one of Couzens ’old phones.
The Independent Police Office (IOPC) has launched an investigation and sent a file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) earlier this month.
The CPS has now approved charges against the trio, who will appear in court next month.
They are accused of sending extremely offensive messages on the public communications network in violation of Article 127 of the 2003 Communications Act.
The alleged crimes took place in April and August 2019.
Two official officers and one former officer will appear in court in Westminster on 16 March.
