Dizzee Rascal was found guilty of assaulting his ex-fiancée during a quarrel over child contact and finances.

The 37-year-old grime artist, whose real name is Dylan Mills, has been found guilty of assaulting Cassandra Jones by pressing his forehead against hers and pushing her to the ground during a “chaotic” quarrel at a residential property in Stratham in the south London on 8 June last year.

Following a verdict in Wimbledon court on Monday, Mills took a camera from the photographer after he left the building and threw it on the road and smashed it.

The court heard that the 37-year-old, who occupied the singles Bonkers and Dance Wiv Me, was “frustrated” by the custody arrangement and the couple quarreled when their daughter was fired on the estate.

‘Screaming and screaming’

Mills, who had two children with Mrs. Jones before they divorced in February 2021, allegedly “broke into” the home, hit his head three times in the refrigerator while holding his son, and began “screaming and screaming” at Mrs. Jones. and her mother Dawn Kirk.

The court heard Jones start filming him, but he took her phone and then took Mrs. Kirk’s phone.

The court heard the screaming become so loud that it alerted two neighbors and they called police.

The judge was told how Mills said “I am the aggressor” when they arrived, and later gave a prepared statement at a police interview in which he denied the allegations and claimed he was attacked by Ms Jones.

‘compassionate and aggressive’

District Judge Polly Gledhill said at the sentencing, “I am pleased to be convinced that Mr. Mills lost his nerve in the altercation on June 8 when he returned home late with a child over contact with children and finances.”

She added that he was “insulting and aggressive” and “attacked her as described by the crown”.

Mills released his debut Boy In Da Corner in 2003. His seventh studio album E3 AF, relating to his East London zip code and African heritage, will be released on October 30th.

In 2020, he received an MBE for Merit for Music at Queen’s Birthday Honors, and in August he performed at festivals including Live At Lydiard in Swindon and Boardmasters in Cornwall.

Mills will be convicted in Croydon Magistrates’ Court on April 8.
