Children’s drawings lay scattered scattered on the floor strewn with broken glass and debris on Wednesday in a badly damaged village school northwest of Kiev.

After promising to reduce attacks after talks in Turkey on Tuesday, Russian forces bombed the outskirts of Kiev.

Inverted school desks and chairs still occupied classrooms overlooking an empty playground that could be seen through windows that no longer had frames or glass.

Nearly five weeks after the invasion, in which Russia failed to capture any major cities, a senior UN human rights official said Moscow had bombed 50 hospitals and homes and schools across Ukraine, which could mean war crimes.

Russia says it is conducting a “special operation” to disarm and “denazify” its neighbor. It denied targeting civilians.
