It was not until 1973, almost twenty years later, that it was rediscovered in an abandoned state of waste at Warrington by Spitfire historian Peter Arnold.

In 2001, the former bought it US Navy pilot Tim Mann and restored to perfect annual condition by Kennet Aviation at North Weald.

In November 2021, the aircraft was purchased by Navy Wings, a company dedicated to preserving the heritage of the British Navy.
