Sir Kenneth will be joined in the series by Ophelia Lovibond as Prime Minister’s wife Carrie Johnson, Andrew Buchan, who plays former Health Minister Matt Hancock, and Shri Patel, who plays Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

The incredible transformation of Sir Kenneth into Prime Minister Boris Johnson (pictured right at the Covid press conference) for the drama was first revealed last year with this picture (left)

Belfast-born Sir Kenneth is no stranger to changing his appearance dramatically because of his roles.

In recent years, he has been seen in the performances of Belgian detective Hercule Poirot Agatha Christie with a mustache that defies gravity.

He has directed and acted in two films as a famous detective in Murder on the Orient Express and his sequel Death on the Nile.

And in 2018, he appeared with William Shakespeare in the film All Is True, which required him to use prosthetics to increase the size of his nose.

This proved controversial among academics, who said the nose he eventually wore was actually too big for the Bard.

Carrie Johnson plays Ophelia Lovibond, best known for her roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and the comedy series Feel Good.

She previously did not hide her contempt for the Conservative government, as she criticized Cabinet Minister and House Speaker Jacob Rees-Mogg ahead of the 2019 general election after pictures of him lying on the front benches of the Common House appeared.

“This behavior is an absolute disgrace,” she wrote at the time.

‘Jacob Rees-Mogg’s writhing on the front bench among one of the most important debates in parliamentary history is the physical embodiment of arrogance, justification, disrespect and contempt for parliament and the people.’

Andrew Buchan as Matt Hancock

Andrew Buchan is a common sight on television screens in the UK as he has had roles in Broadchurch, The Crown and Cobra.

As a stage actor, he has appeared in classic plays such as Romeo and Juliet and Richard II by Shakespeare, as well as in The Man Who Had All the Luck by Arthur Miller.

In the third season of The Crown series, he starred as Andrew Parker-Bowles, the ex-husband of Camille, Duchess of Cornwall.

In 2013, he became prominent in the critically acclaimed drama ITV Broadchurch, in which he played Mark Latimer, the father of murdered boy Danny Latimer.

If he rises above the real chancellor, it may take some TV magic to make 6ft 1in Shri Patel look closer to 5ft 6in Rishi Sunaku.

Patel has appeared in small theatrical performances and commercials for companies including Matalan.

He has some experience with political acting – he portrayed the Assistant Prime Minister in the American crime drama Pennyworth, a show based on the life of Batman’s butler Alfred.
