War between Russia and Ukraine: We must win by winter, otherwise Russia will lie down for the long term, Kyiv warns

UChina needs to win a war with Russia before winter to prevent the Kremlin from making long-term concessions, presidential chief of staff Andriy Jermak said on Tuesday.

“It is very important for us not to enter winter,” Yermak told the Ukrainian weekly Novoye Vremya.

“After the winter, when the Russians have more time to fortify themselves, it will definitely be more difficult. It is very important for us not to give them that chance.”

He reiterated Kiev’s position that Western allies should supply Ukraine with more weapons and said he was counting on billions of dollars in US pledges in the form of arms and economic support.

The Ukraine Lease and Defense of Democracy Act, signed into law by US President Joe Biden in May to boost that support, is expected to take full effect next month.

“Our goal is to win,” Yermak said.
