The life of a British mother after being struck by lightning in Croatia

A British mother’s life is said to be over after she was struck by lightning on a beach in Croatia.

Police in Split said they were called at 3.15pm on Saturday after one person had apparently been hit.

“An investigation will be carried out at the scene and all the circumstances of this accident will be determined,” added the police officers.

“Her life is in danger.”

The woman, believed to be a 48-year-old British citizen, was sunbathing with her daughter when a storm came in from the sea, according to MailOnline.

The victim, who has not been identified, is said to have fallen unconscious while trying to get to a nearby hotel with her daughter.

She is now said to be in critical condition in intensive care.

Triathlon official Marjenski Dir told MailOnline: ‘The woman was hit near the beach and luckily for her one of our doctors on duty who was at the event managed to revive her.

“He was nearby dealing with a cycling accident that had just happened and when he heard the screams he rushed to help the woman and stabilized her until the ambulance arrived.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are providing support to the family of a British national in Croatia and are in contact with the local authorities.”
