Boris Johnson has called on the British public to bear higher energy bills as the price of freedom in Europe because “Ukrainians pay with blood”.

When we talked about the surprise visit to Kiev on the occasion of the commemoration six months from the start of the Russian invasionthe outgoing Prime Minister urged the UK’s allies not to waver in their support for Ukraine.

It comes amid fears that spiraling energy prices and a wider cost-of-living crisis could spiral weaken the resolve of European governments.

Meanwhile Emmanuel Macron, French PresidentMatteo Salvini, leader of Italy’s far-right League party, said on Wednesday that the country was facing “sacrifices” but urged people to “accept to pay the price of freedom”. called on the EU to reconsider its sanctions about Russia.

According to Italy, Mr. Salvini will be part of a coalition government elections next monthhe said the measures could hit member states more than Russia.

New to the UK energy price ceilingwhich comes into effect in October, will be announced by Ofgem, the industry regulator, on Friday.

It is expected to rise from the current £1,971 to around £3,600 a year. It could top £5,000 in January and raised over £6,000 in Aprilaccording to predictions.

On Wednesday in Kiev Said Mr. Johnson: “We know that if we pay our energy bills for the evil of Vladimir Putin, the people of Ukraine are paying with their blood.

“That’s why we know we have to stay the course. Because if Putin succeeded, then no country on the periphery of Russia would be safe and… [that] would be a green light for every autocrat in the world that borders can be changed by force.

“I just say this to all our friends – we have to keep going. As friends of Ukraine, we must show that we have the same strategic endurance as the people of Ukraine.”
