Downing Street sound engineer dubbed ‘hot podium’ after fitting microphones for Boris Johnson and Theresa May made a sensational return to television screens today.
Tobias Gough, 39, from Longfield, Kent, earned the nickname after the legion Twitter users swooned over his tight black T-shirt and muscular arms.
After becoming a mainstay at the entrances and exits of British Prime Ministers, the “hot podium” was spotted back on duty today.
And some Twitter users expressed more concern about whether he would emerge as the new prime minister Liz Truss.

During Liz Truss’ first address this afternoon, the Downing Street press filled the Prime Minister’s residence.

Mr Gough first came to attention during Theresa May’s final Prime Minister’s speech in July 2019 and has earned him many fans online.
Before Boris Johnson addressed the nation in July and announced his resignation as Prime Minister, fans of ‘Podium Guy’ urged him to step down: “I vote to keep ‘Podium Guy’ temporary and let Boris go today,” one wrote on Twitter.
Many people despaired of Mr Gough on Twitter in July. One even joked: “Nothing marks a major political event in Britain like the return of a hot guy on the podium”
In 2019, Mr Gough revealed his surprise at the attention he received, telling MailOnline at the time that he was ‘not model material’.
He said: ‘I have to say it was great lighting to make me look so good, the sun had to be at the right angle.
I can assure people that I usually don’t look that good – I’m not going to start modeling just yet.
“I’m 36 years old, so I think my best days are far behind me.
“However, it was very funny to read all the comments on social media.
Mr Gough married wife Tina just two weeks before the mayhem in May 2019 in a low-key ceremony in Scotland.
He said at the time: “I haven’t spoken to her yet and I’m wondering what kind of response I’ll get, but she sent a message and took it all in stride.”
