A murder investigation when a mother and daughter are found dead in a village house

A 46-year-old man is in hospital custody after a mother and her daughter were found dead at their home in a Suffolk village.

Detectives were called to a property in Great Waldingfield, near Sudbury, on Thursday morning.

When they forced their way inside, they discovered the bodies of a 44-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter.

A man, who was also in the property and was known to the victims, was seriously injured.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder before being taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospitalin Cambridge, where he remained in critical but stable condition.

Neighbors on Great Waldingfield’s Heath Estate had to be evacuated from their homes after a gas leak was discovered in the property.

Police said the two victims and the man in custody knew each other and the matter has now been referred due to previous contact between the police and the family. Independent Office for Police Conduct.

In the statement, the spokesperson Suffolk Police said: “Detectives believe this is a contained incident, with no wider threat to the community, and understand all three individuals knew each other.

“An autopsy was performed this afternoon on a 44-year-old woman at the Home Office, which determined that the cause of death was pressure on the neck.

“A Home Office autopsy on the 12-year-old girl is expected to be carried out next week.”

The spokesman added: “Due to the fact that there was previous (but not recent) contact between the victim and Suffolk Police, the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Conduct Office for their assessment, in accordance with agreed protocols.”

Suffolk Police are also appealing for witnesses to come forward.
