Former president Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday that he thought New York State Attorney Letitia James would settle her case against him, something he said he had trouble doing because he is not guilty.
The comments came as the former president disputed James’ $250 million lawsuit, saying Trump lied about the value of his assets.
Speaking to Sean Hannity from his Mar-a-Lago home on Wednesday, Trump doubled down on his claim that the value of his property is high and noted the decadence of Mar-a-Lago.
He revealed at the time: ‘I actually never thought she would file a case and she did. And the reason I thought she had no case.
“I was under the impression that he wanted to settle,” he claimed. “But I had a problem because how do you pay something, even if it’s a small amount, if it’s not your fault.”
The former president also warned that he adds a disclaimer to his loan applications that tells creditors to make their own assessment of value — as an apparent defense against a lawsuit.
He then called the lawsuit “just a continuation of the witch hunt that started when I went down the Trump Tower escalator,” suggesting that James had been after him since she first ran for office.

“She ran a campaign four years ago, it was a vicious campaign,” Trump said. “And she was just talking about Trump and ‘We’re going to get him, we’re going to impeach him, we’re going to get him.’
‘She knew nothing about me,’ he claimed. “I had never heard of her, but I saw this woman, I saw this statement that she issued without knowing anything.”
“She said, ‘We’re going to get him,’ her whole campaign was based on that,” Trump continued. ‘Then she came after us, we’ve been thinking about it for years.’
“We went down the escalator and it started,” Trump claimed.
The FOX News host then asked the former president if he ever applied for a loan when he ran the Trump Organization, to which Trump replied, ‘Well, you know, we do make loans, but I have very little debt.’
He added: “They’ve humiliated me for years with these things and now they’ve found that I have very little debt, very, very little, a lot of money – we have a great company and we have one of the best assets anywhere in the world.
“I went through, these people constantly put me down. There’s something wrong with them,” he said, apparently referring to Letitia James.
‘I truly believe they hate our country.’
Hannity appeared to offer a defense of the former president at one point, noting that lenders have a “fiduciary responsibility to determine what the value” of each property is
The former president then noted that he has a disclaimer on each of his loan applications that says the appraisals were done by Trump Organization management and creditors should get their own appraisals.
At that point, Hannity appeared to offer Trump a defense — saying that lenders have a “fiduciary responsibility to determine what the value is” of each property.
In response, the former president claimed that he has a disclaimer on each of his loan applications.
“It basically says, ‘Hire your own people, you’re at your own risk.’ That’s what management did. So don’t rely on the statement you’re getting.”
“It’s basically saying to the institution, ‘You’re going to lend money, you’re going to have to go out and get your appraisers, your lawyers, everything.’
Trump added that he doesn’t have a mortgage on most of his properties, but if he did, appraisers would come and compare it to nearby homes.
