National Insurance rises introduced by Boris Johnson’s government will be rolled back from November 6, with workers seeing the benefits in their payslips that month.

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng confirmed ahead of today’s mini budget that he was canceling the 1.25 percentage point increase introduced by Rishi Sunak to pay for social care and tackle the NHS backlog.

Mr Kwarteng said he would also scrap the planned health and social care levy, which is due to come into effect next April and raise about £13bn a year.

The Treasury said most employees will receive a reduction in their National Insurance contributions directly through their employer’s payroll in their November paycheck, although some may be pushed back to December or January.
