Hhello and welcome to Telegraph Sport’s coverage of Liverpool v Everton at Anfield.
Today’s Merseyside derby marks the first time Liverpool have played at Anfield since November 2019 and they are riding high shock win against defending champions Chelsea last weekend, Matt Beard’s side will be looking to keep their cool against their local rivals.
“It’s a different opportunity to play at Anfield – that will put extra pressure on us and then on Everton – they’re coming to one of the most iconic stadiums in football,” Beard said at Friday’s press conference.
“It’s a Merseyside derby. There will be a bit of pressure on both teams.
“We just have to focus on ourselves. When the whistle blows and they cross that white line, I have all the faith and confidence in the group that we can play well and do the way we are. [against Chelsea].”
Everton come into today’s derby without such a strong start to the season, having lost away to West Ham, but striker Izzy Christiansen has praised the developing positive mindset at the club as a whole.
Christiansen told ITV: “Frank Lampard and his staff have to be given a lot of credit.
“They’ve really lifted the spirits of the club. There’s a real connection between the men’s and women’s teams. Real integration.
“Encouraging each other and acknowledging the results of our weekend: those are the building blocks.”
Everton have won the last two games between the sides, the latter winning to drop Liverpool into the Championship, but it was only after promotion that Liverpool started the Super League season with a point to brag about. Can they clinch the spoils in front of a 20,000-strong Anfield crowd?
Kick-off is at 5.30pm and before then we’ll be bringing you team news and live updates and all the latest post-match reaction.
