although Costco is known for strikingly low prices – especially on a loved one food court-some loyal Costco customers are noticing how the quality of their former favorites seems to be declining. Let it be due to the complications of the pandemic, or inflation are buyers asking what is worse: raising prices for better quality or settling for poor quality at the same prices?
According to Costco members, Costco seems to value price over quality, and the “hype” surrounding some of these products seems to be slowly dying down as a result. They are here some popular Costco dining options that members say are now overpriced. Also, don’t miss out What is the Costco Death Star? And why you should know about it.

Probably one of the most controversial items on the Costco food menu is a slice of pizza. While the price for their giant slice remains $1.99, the quality doesn’t seem to be up to customer standards — especially now that the popular combo pizza is no longer available.
Some honest reviews in a recent Reddit thread it all started when customers talked about how disappointing the slice continued to be. “They’ve changed. Their pizza isn’t the same as it was 6 months ago. It’s not even worth the carton anymore,” writes Reddit user u/Sbuxshlee. “Couldn’t agree more since they got rid of mixed/combo pizza. I never get anything from a coffee shop again, I’d rather eat elsewhere,” writes u/droolforfoodz.

They may be a nice treat served with caramel and chocolate sauces, but unfortunately, this sweet snack doesn’t seem to live up to the hype for most.
“Churros taste like play-doh. I can’t do that,” says u/ama_koolaid. “I had a churro that was really dry and not as fluffy and crunchy as I remembered as a kid,” says Reddit user u/learningtodiy in a recent post about the decline in the quality of catering establishments.

A hot dog may be just as cheap as a pizza, but now that it’s not served with the usual toppings (such as chopped onions and pickles), many customers seem to be disappointed with the result.
“Every time I went to Costco I got a hot dog with fresh chopped onions and mustard,” u/canon12 writes. “There’s been no chopped onions or pickles since COVID started. I understand that wouldn’t be the safest thing to do, but hopefully they’ll come back to the bar eventually.”
“I got two hot dogs the other day and the worker pulled the cold bread right out of the plastic bag instead of putting it in the steamer,” admits u/Comments_Wyoming.

While there seem to be mixed opinions about the quality of chicken roasts at restaurants, some loyal customers notice differences that aren’t so subtle.
“Chicken cakes now come frozen instead of fresh,” says u/white-christmas. “I keep telling my husband the chicken pot pie isn’t good anymore, but he thinks it’s the same as it was,” writes u/Moms_Chapagetti. “They taste crunchy to me.” Others remark that they are smallereat less chicken and just don’t take the same.
Unfortunately, these perennial Costco favorites may no longer live up to the hype.
