Guiseley AFC narrowly beat Warrington Town 1-0 in the FA Trophy on Saturday, but the match was overshadowed by an ’embarrassing’ incident involving parts of an away fan and Warrington’s goalkeeper.

Tony Thompson was sent off in the 60th minute following an altercation with a Guiseley fan after the fan allegedly urinated in his drink.

The video showed a fan jumping the barriers between the stands and the pitch, seemingly swapping Thompson’s bottle for another similar one, with the words “p***** in goalie juice”.

After realizing what had happened, Thompson allegedly splashed a bottle in the face of the allegedly offending fan, causing a lengthy delay in the game that saw referee Ben Robinson send off the hapless goalkeeper.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be involved in anything like that again,” Warrington boss Mark Beesley said.

“Guiseley staff have apologized – it was disgusting and there is no place in life for such things.

I think the referee completely lost control after that – if someone urinates in my bottle and I drink it, I will throw it away. To send him away for throwing away the bottle is a shame.

It’s hard to talk about football when such a big incident happens.

“From our point of view, the welfare of our players is paramount and what Tony has been subjected to is disgraceful.

Tony Thompson took to Twitter to admit the incident 'made me sick'

“Whoever did this should hang their head in shame and never be allowed to play football again.

“A judge has to understand common sense – I don’t understand that.”

Warrington were eventually narrowly beaten in a game that went down in the last minute when away striker Lewis Whitham scored.

Thompson wasn’t the only player to be sent off either, teammate Josh Amis, who had just come off the bench, also left early.

Sam Thompson took to Twitter after the game to express his shock and frustration, admitting that the incident had made him lose his love for the game.

He wrote: ‘I fell in love with the GAME today! I’ve been called many abusive words, but it’s unheard of for someone to blow on my bottle to drink and then be told I can’t respond because I’m an actor.

“This person put my family’s health at risk and made me sick.”

The fan in question has reportedly been removed from Cantilever Park, but it is yet to be seen if any further action will be taken.
