Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer hosts “The Morning Briefing” live at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here’s a recap of Monday’s key moments. Trimming HAL SBUX opportunity to lower LLY? 1. Shorting HAL We are shorting 300 shares of Halliburton (HAL) at around $38.45 a piece after the stock has rallied more than 50% over the past 3 months. The energy sector was broadly supported by rising crude oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude – the US oil benchmark – up more than 5% over the past week to around $80 a barrel on Monday morning trading. We also downgraded Halliburton to 2, meaning we would buy some shares on a pullback. 2. SBUX analyst downgrades Deutsche Bank on Monday downgraded Starbucks ( SBUX ) to hold from buy. The bank isn’t bearish on the stock, but believes the stock has less room to run after climbing about 24% over the past three months. We remain bullish on the coffee maker and believe the stock will continue to grow as the company builds new stores in a reopening China. In other words, we don’t think investors should sell Starbucks stock on this downgrade. Starbucks was down about 1.5% on Monday at $103.48 a share. 3. LLY buying opportunity? Cowen raised its price target on Eli Lilly ( LLY ) to $430 from $390 ahead of the company’s 2023 call on Dec. 13. We continue to like this pharma giant and believe that if there is a sell-off due to guidance disappointment, it could lead to a buying opportunity. Eli Lilly stock traded down 0.48% on Monday, hitting $372.97 per share. (Jim Cramer’s charitable trust holds HAL, LLY, SBUX debt. See here for a full list of stocks.)
