Hence, many devotees celebrate this auspicious festival with great enthusiasm and devotion, offering prayers to Lord Shiva and fasting. People fast all day or eat certain foods with or without salt. While there are many foods that you can prepare at home for your fast, we have some recipes for fasting without salt for MahaShivratri.

HealthShots turned to a dietitian and nutritionist, Avni Kaulwho shared something with us fasting recipes which are healthy and can be made without salt.

2. Potato curry

Potatoes are the main ingredient of fasting food and a simple salt free potato curry can be a great option for MahaShivratri. Cooked with ginger, green chillies and other permitted spices, it can be served with puri or kuttu ki roti. Avoid frying potatoes as this will increase the fat content. Eat them boiled or fry them before eating.
