The coronation of King Charles is the royal event of the year and the guest list is a fraction of the size of Queen Elizabeth’s.

While 8,000 people crowded into Westminster Abbey in 1953, only 2,200 people will attend on Saturdayincluding members of the royal family, foreign heads of state and representatives of royal charities.

The invitations were like gold dustwith many politicians, peers and even friends of the royal family not making the cut.

But one person who did get the invitation he wanted was Robert Hunningher, who used his shuttered catering business to feed his local community and provide thousands of meals for the NHS during the Covid pandemic.

In this episode of Royal Insight, Camilla Tominey, associate editor at The Telegraph, talks to Mr Hunningher about his ‘golden ticket’ experience.

Commenting on the day he received the invitation, Mr Hunningher says: “Everyone was jumping for joy… We’re still in shock, it took me a day to open the envelope because I was so nervous.”

He added: “My wife was disappointed she wasn’t invited as she’s not plus one, but at the same time it’s fine to represent the family.”
