Lucy Frazer, Minister for Culture, said: “The Coronation Medal will act as a reminder of the important role each person has played in this moment in history.

“From our armed forces who protect our country, to the emergency services who look after us at home, in addition to those volunteers who give up their time to make this event so special, I am delighted that we can mark their contribution to this special day , and for every day they go above and beyond to serve their country.”

‘Thank you from the nation’

Oliver Dowden, Deputy Prime Minister, said: “The coronation would not have been possible without the dedication and selfless service of our armed forces and other public servants.

“This medal is a fitting recognition of their efforts and the thanks of the nation. We will wear it with pride for years to come.”

Members of the police, firefighters, rescue services, prisons and armed forces who have completed five full years of service will also receive the medal.

Living individual recipients of the George or Victoria Cross will also receive it.

Suella Braverman, Home Secretary, said: “This medal is a symbol of the critical role our emergency services will play in this a once in a lifetime opportunity in honor of our new king.

“However, it rightly goes further and recognizes not only those who help with the coronation, but also the heroes in our emergency services, such as the police, fire and ambulance services, who go to work every day to protect and support us all.”

The first Crown Medal was awarded in 1603, under the reign of King James I.
