Everything we know about the Texas mall shooter

A gunman wearing a black bulletproof vest and armed with AR-15assault rifle style shooting at a Texas shopping center Saturday, killing eight people and wounding seven others.

Surveillance video circulating on social media showed the gunman getting out of a gray sedan just outside the entrance to Allen Premium Outlets, a sprawling mall on the outskirts of Dallas, and immediately opening fire on bystanders in the parking lot.

An officer with the Allen Police Department who was on an unrelated call heard the gunfire and “neutralized” the suspect, police said.

What we know about the suspect

Police have not yet identified the attacker or released a possible motive.

The shooter entered the mall shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time.

The video showed him exiting a gray sedan wearing black tactical gear and armed with an AR-15-style weapon before opening fire.

Police allegedly searched the suspect’s home.

Aerial footage showed hundreds of shoppers trying to flee the scene after the gunman opened fire with an AR-15-style pistol around 3:30 p.m. local time. The bodies of the victims, including several small children, were covered with sheets.

Seven people — including the suspect — were killed at the scene, Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said said at the Saturday press conference.

Nine people were transported to the hospital, where two others succumbed to their injuries.

The three survivors were undergoing surgery and remained in a critical condition Saturday night, Mr. Boyd said. The other four were in stable condition.

Among the injured are children as young as five, a hospital in the Dallas area told CNN.
