The Coronation of the King has been marked around the world, with the Commonwealth and beyond rejoicing at his coronation.

France

For a country that infamously abolished its own monarchy, French newspapers published remarkably positive coverage of the coronation of King Charles III.

The right-wing daily Le Figaro called the historic ceremony “a coronation to celebrate the unity of the kingdom,” while Le Point magazine said the coronation “illustrated the confident style of the new sovereign, which combines tradition and modernity.”

Sunday’s Le Journal du Dimanche commented on the ornate splendor of the ceremony, with “golden sceptres, sumptuous carriages and diamond-encrusted crowns – among the largest in the world. Fairytale decor, a thousand-year-old ritual, for the 40th British ruler since William the Conqueror in 1066.”
