Succession fans said they “may never recover” from the last episode’s dramatic showdown between Shiva (Sarah Snook) and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen).

The seventh episode of the latest season was released on Monday (May 8) and ended with the recently reunited couple having a heated argument on the balcony.

During the argument, Tom tells Shiv that she has a “damn skinny” sense of herself and wouldn’t make a good mother – not knowing that she is actually pregnant. Meanwhile, Shiv calls Tom “work-hard and parochial” and accuses him of stealing the last six months she could have had with her father before his death.

It was a steep drop from where the episode began, with the pair haranguing each other about the “Orgasm Olympics” they competed in the night before.

Viewers of the show were shocked by the fight scene. “Listen – I never thought of Tom Wambsgans as a cannibal but in this scene he ate Shiv UP,” tweeted one. “She said she never wanted to have his baby and that she wouldn’t be a good mom all the time, so she got SOMEBODY’s bun in the oven. I mean, wow.”

“Shiv and Tom ‘clearing the air’ scene,” posted another. “It was probably the most harrowing and emotionally draining scene I’ve seen in years. Give Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen their Emmys already.”

A third shared, “This fight between Shiv and Tom??? And these insults??? Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen are ACTORS. Wow.”

“Shiv and Tom cutting each other as deep as they can,” posted a fourth. “Things that have been kept since the beginning of the marriage. Damn it! Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen get ready for these Emmys because they better be yours!”

Another tweeted: “The most painful thing about the Tom-Shiv feud is that Shiv just called him a social climber (which he is) and in retaliation he hit her where it hurts the most by tagging her for broken, incapable of love and too damaged to have children.”

A sixth wrote: “No Tom, don’t say that about Shiva! No Tom, she’s pregnant with your child! He really loves you! NO TOM NOOO.”

A seventh posted: “Every Tom and Shiv scene is more bizarre and intense than the last, yet I’m always so happy to watch it.”
