The incident, which happened days after the royal coronation, is being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Announcing her death, Mrs Holland’s son Martin said his mother died after “suffering a number of broken bones and major internal injuries” while using the “safe route [a] pedestrian crossing”.
On the day of the incident, Martin Hennessy, 62, told MailOnline: ‘It was an accident waiting to happen. The screens were put up for the coronation, but that meant you had to step out a bit into the road to see the traffic.’
He added: “I was there shortly after it happened and it was carnage. The poor lady was thrown about 40 meters to the side of the road and was treated by paramedics. She stepped out a little to peek around the screen, and was hit.”
