Prince Harry is due to give evidence this week in his legal case against News Group Newspapers (NGN), the publishers of The Sun and The Sun on Sunday, for unlawful information gathering.
In this episode of Royal Insight, Camilla Tominey explains how the Duke’s court cases are a double-edged sword.
“If Harry thinks he has a case for phone hacking and wants to go all the way to the courts to get it, then fair play to him; despite the fact that even if he wins, he also loses,” he says.
“As Harry has revealed more private information in his ongoing quest to protect privacy, even if he wins in court, he may lose in the long run.
“Harry is a man on a mission to reform the press and feels this is his life’s purpose. Trying to get revenge on the people he thinks caused his mother’s death is very backwards.”
“Prince Harry sees himself as a champion for a different media. For Harry, if he has to write hurtful things about his family, so be it. That’s the bigger prize – media reform.”
“Is there a noble cause at the heart of what Prince Harry is trying to do – yes. I think most people, myself included, are not comfortable with the idea of paparazzi chasing celebrities in car chases, it’s not safe.”
