New Hampshire transgender Democrat arrested for distributing child pornography a year after she resigned

Stacie-Marie Laughton, a biological man who lives as a woman, was elected in 2012 but was unable to serve after her criminal past came to light, in which she was sentenced to probation for felony credit card fraud in 2008 .

On Thursday, Laughton, 39, was arrested again and faces four counts of distributing sexually graphic images of children depicting child sexual abuse.

The Nashua Police Department began an investigation into the allegations after receiving a tip.

Laughton allegedly obtained photographs of young children attending a daycare center in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, 55 miles northwest of Boston.

Detectives then looked into the allegations and Laughton was promptly arrested.

“They spoke with reporters who indicated that Laughton distributed sexually explicit images of children,” Sgt. John Cinelli of the Nashua Police Department said.

“Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit have been assigned to continue the investigation. They applied for and obtained a warrant for Laughton’s arrest.’

According to the charging documents he has seen Union leaderLaughton is said to have been sent the photos by Lindsay Groves, a worker at Creative Minds early learning center in Tyngsborough, with whom she was previously in an intimate relationship.

The documents do not specifically identify Laughton as the person, but Laughton’s social media posts suggest the couple was in a relationship.

Groves, who was also arrested, allegedly took pictures of naked children at the daycare and sent them to Laughton.

According to the affidavit, Groves ‘allegedly used natural bathroom breaks for children,’ such as ‘routinely changing diapers at bedtime … to take multiple photos of pre-pubescent children in a private bathroom and then send the photos to (a former intimate partner) via text message. messages’ with an alleged 2,500 text messages.

Laughton, a former Democratic representative, has faced several charges over the years.

Her long criminal history dates back to 2002 when she was arrested for domestic violence/criminal mischief that year and charged with sexually assaulting a female in 2003.

In 2015, she was arrested for making a bomb threat to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

She was arrested again in 2021 for abusing the state’s 911 messaging system.

Despite her criminal past, Laughton still ran for a second term in 2022 and was elected to represent Nashua, New Hampshire.

However, she was again unable to take office because she was jailed on stalking charges.

Laughton blamed mental illness and untreated conditions for her past criminal behavior.

She expressed regret and stated that their actions were completely abnormal.

“I’ve had mental illness my whole life, and I think that was my worst break with it. I was untreated and medicated for a long time,” Laughton said in an interview with New Hampshire Union Leader after being arrested for making a bomb threat.

“I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone and that was completely unusual for me. I’ve put a lot behind me and I never thought in a million years I’d be doing this.”
