Australian government receives meme treatment for ridiculous treatment of world number one tennis star Novak Djokovic‘s visa after it came out, the Serb was unvaccinated.

The incredible break in communication between the state and federal governments, along with an abundance of political action, has caused a major unforced error for a country that has some of the strictest Covid restrictions in the world.

Djokovic touched Melbourne on Wednesday, one week before Australian Open main draw.

Despite publicly declaring opposition to vaccination, the tennis phenomenon owned a visa that allowed him to complete it and a medical exemption from the vaccine – not to mention the natural immunity that recently defeated Covid.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison – who is under tremendous pressure in an election year as he has introduced severe and extremely unpopular prisons and vaccine passports – has first shifted responsibility for enforcing Covid’s rules to the state of Victoria.

Then, just a few hours later, he decided he would the federal government controls who comes in and out of the country and that everyone – including world-renowned athletes – must abide by its tyrannical restrictions.

“Rules are rules,” Morrison said.

Djokovic was finally released from custody today and went to training in Melbourne at midnight – just as Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke announced he could still tear up the tennis star’s visa at the moment.

Djokovic’s visa was revoked and he was taken to a “torturous” detention center for migrants to await deportation … just because a Victoria judge this morning overturned a government decision to tear up his visa.

“The rules are the rules,” Judge Anthony Kelly said when he ruled that border agents who gave Djokovic just 20 minutes to submit more documents in support of the visa at 4 a.m. acted unreasonably.

“In other words: these rules were not followed.”

The saga continues, Hawke-Eye’s decision is still on the line. But in the eyes of the internet, the farce has been going on long enough.
