Anthony Joshua insists he is ready to go 12 rounds against Oleksandr Usyk after retaining his significant weight advantage for tomorrow’s rematch in Jeddah.

The theme of the build-up was clearly the extra bulk that the beefed-up Usyk was carrying, but the extra muscle proved to be an illusion as he moved up to almost the same weight as their first fight.

The Ukrainian weighed in at 15st 11lbs 9oz, just nine ounces heavier than when he captured the WBA, IBF and WBO belts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium almost a year ago.

Joshua clocked in at 17st 6lbs 8oz, 4.8lbs heavier than in September, putting almost two stone on his rival.

“I’m 100 per cent ready for 12 rounds and anything shorter than that is a bonus,” Joshua said at the weigh-in at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

The pair engaged in a lengthy confrontation before they clasped hands in mutual respect and turned away, Usyk giving a thumbs up for good measure.

Asked what to read into their lingering eye gaze, Joshua said: “Not much, it was just a confrontation.

“I always say that for me personally, fights don’t mean anything. It’s about ringing the bell. You don’t win fights.

“All that stuff doesn’t matter … it’s just about the fight. The weights, the fights – none of that matters to me. I’m just looking forward to the fight.”

Usyk would only say “you see, your expectations don’t get met every time” regarding speculation about his bulging physique, revealing that when he looked into Joshua’s eyes, he saw “a reflection of himself”.
