Furious Anthony Joshua blew up his cold-blooded backstage after losing the return leg Oleksandr Usik after a bystander told the British boxer to ‘stay professional’.

Joshua lost a split decision to Usyk, who successfully defended his IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight belts on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.

Following his memorable and impassioned speech to the crowd after the match, the 32-year-old was captured in a seemingly happy mood as he headed backstage with members of his team.

But the mood suddenly soured when a bystander – believed to be referee Malik Waleed, who oversaw Filip Hrgovic’s win over Zhilei Zhang on the undercard – called out to Joshua to “stay professional”.

This prompted the former world champion to lose his temper and react explosively.

As security restrained him and escorted him towards his dressing room, Joshua shouted: ‘Who are you talking to? Who the hell are you talking to? Are you angry?’

His backstage reaction mirrored the irritability he showed immediately after losing the battle.

Joshua tossed two of Usyk’s belts out of the ring and stormed off before coming back at the victorious Ukrainian.

The 2012 Olympic gold medalist grabbed the microphone and addressed the crowd: “If you knew my story, you would understand the passion.

“I’m not some fucking amateur boxer from the age of five who was an elite prospect from a young age.

“I was going to jail, I got bail and I started training my dick because if I was convicted I wanted to be able to fight.

‘I stole that Usyk, sorry, but that’s because we put some damn passion into that dick.’

After seemingly calming down, Joshua continued to praise Usyk for his victory.

He continued: ‘For this guy to beat me tonight – maybe he could have done better – but it shows the level of hard work he’s had to put in, so I give him a round of applause for our world heavyweight champion.

‘I’m not a 12-round fighter. Look at me, I’m a new breed of heavyweight.

‘All these heavyweights, Mike Tyson, Sonny Liston, Jack Dempsey… “Oh, you’re not throwing combinations like Rocky Marciano” – because I’m not a fucking 14 stone, that’s why.

“I’m 18 years old, I’m heavy. It’s hard work. This guy here is a phenomenal talent.”

Joshua later broke down in tears at the post-fight press conference, unable to contain his emotions when asked if he still felt ‘proud’ of himself.

“It’s really, really hard for me to say that I’m proud of myself. I don’t feel anything, I’m just… excited. Deep down, in my heart,” he said.

The heavyweight boxer then clearly struggles to say anything else as he covers his face with his hands and is comforted by Eddie Hearn, who is sitting right next to him.

‘I tried a different style. Earlier in my career, what got me through when I beat the people I beat… I beat them out of sheer hunger and passion,” Joshua continued.

‘In the last fight I wanted to compete as a boxer, but that wasn’t good enough and it wasn’t good enough tonight.’
